El cementerio de la época Wari / The cemetery from the Wari period

Imperio Wari

800 d.C

Wari was an imperial society whose capital was located in what is now the department of Ayacucho. During the 8th century AD, burials were conducted on the highest platforms of the pyramid following the traditional Wari style. The bodies were placed in a seated position with bent legs and arms, then wrapped in fabrics and leaves, tied with ropes to form a compact bundle. A false head made of wood or fabric was added to symbolize the person, who was also dressed and adorned.
The complexity of the tombs and the funerary offerings was related to the importance of the buried individuals.

Some tombs were simple pits, while others were more elaborate structures with roofed chambers. Inside the tomb, offerings were placed, possibly connected to the activities the deceased had performed in life.

At Huaca Pucllana, 82 tombs from this period have been discovered.
