Isabel Flores Espinoza
The recovery of the archaeological site of Pucllana would not be possible without the intervention of Dr. Isabel Flores Espinoza.
The year was 1981, and Huaca Juliana, a mound of land that had narrowly escaped being destroyed by urban development companies, represented a real problem for the district of Miraflores, as it had been invaded by precarious residents, and was used as a a garbage and clearing dump. The Municipality, aware of the need for change, and without resorting to operational shortcuts, summoned archaeologist Isabel Flores, who then worked at the INC, to direct what would become the longest-running archaeological project in the history of the Peru: the Research, Conservation and Enhancement Project of the Huaca Juliana (later, Pucllana). Dr. Isabel was very clear from the beginning: the project had to consider the three aspects to be successful, and time proved her right.
Dr. Isabel's achievements and recognitions followed one another over time. At the same rate as research generated new information and numerous publications were published, the conserved and restored areas were integrated into the visiting circuit, which in recent years incorporated night service and the musicalization of parts of the route.
